Housing finance reform will be among the priority issues the Senate Banking Committee will focus on during the 116th Congress, Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) announced today. He noted that the committee will assess several reform proposals “to determine how we can fix the flawed system, establish appropriate levels of taxpayer protection, preserve the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, increase competition among mortgage guarantors and promote access to affordable housing.”
Among the committee’s other priorities will be oversight of the implementation of the S. 2155 regulatory reform law, consumer privacy and data protection, capital markets, reform of the nation’s credit bureaus, fintech and the reauthorization of expiring programs including the National Flood Insurance Program and the Export-Import Bank’s charter.
