The rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was 6.76% this week, down from last week when it averaged 6.85%, according to Freddie Mac. A year ago, the rate was 6.94%. The rate for a 15-year fixed-rate mortgage was 5.94%, down from last week when it averaged 6.04%. A year ago, the rate was 6.26%.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller provided an update on the feedback the Fed received about a proposal to create “skinny” accounts for payment services, acknowledging that banks and financial technology firms want conflicting things from the proposed service.
