New orders for manufactured goods increased 1.4% to $478.5 billion in September, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It followed a 1.2% rise in August.
New orders for manufactured durable goods grew 2.0% to $238.4 billion in September. Transportation equipment led the increase, jumping 4.7% to $80.9 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods increased 0.9% to $240.3 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods, up fourteen of the last fifteen months, increased 0.6% to $403.9 billion.
