New orders for manufactured durable goods fell 4.0 percent to $219.8 billion in June, following a 2.8 percent May decrease according to the U.S. Census Bureau. New transportation orders drove the decrease, falling 10.5 percent to $72.2 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders fell 0.5 percent.
New orders excluding defense fell 3.9 percent on the month, as orders of nondefense capital goods fell 11.3 percent to $64.8 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods rose 0.4 percent to $232.5 billion, following a 0.3 percent decrease in May.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods fell 0.2 percent to $381.5 billion, following a 0.4 percent May decrease. Inventories have now declined for eleven of the last twelve months.
