ABA Names Naomi Camper as Chief Policy Officer

March 21, 2018
Reading Time: 2 mins read

Camper

The American Bankers Association today named Naomi Camper as the association’s chief policy officer, a position created last fall that will oversee all government relations and policy research functions. Camper’s portfolio will include federal and state legislative affairs, regulatory affairs and economic research, as well as ABA’s mortgage, tax and accounting policy groups.

Camper joins ABA from J.P. Morgan Chase, where she is currently head of nonprofit engagement, working with nonprofits representing low- and moderate-income communities, communities of color and people with disabilities. She previously oversaw consumer public policy at the firm and led J.P. Morgan Chase’s federal-level advocacy team. Earlier in her career, she was a subcommittee staff director on the Senate Banking Committee for former Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.). Before serving on Capitol Hill, she was a lawyer in private practice.

“I am thrilled that Naomi has agreed to join ABA at this important moment for the banking industry,” said ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols. “She will ensure ABA’s already powerful voice on behalf of America’s banks grows even louder and more effective.”

“I welcome this new challenge and the opportunity to join the talented policy team already assembled at ABA,” said Camper, who will start at ABA on June 18. “I look forward to working with members from across the country to ensure banks face a policy environment that promotes inclusive economic growth and allows them to serve their customers and communities.”

Curt Everson — president and CEO of the South Dakota Bankers Association, who worked with Camper when she was on Capitol Hill — added that “Naomi is a perfect choice for this important role at ABA” and that “she will be an incredible advocate for community banks in South Dakota and across the country.”
