President-elect Trump today nominated Paul Atkins as Securities and Exchange Commission chairman. If confirmed by the Senate, he will succeed Gary Gensler, who has announced plans to step down from the commission next year.
Atkins currently is chief executive of financial services consultancy Patomak Global Partners. He previously served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008. Earlier in his career, he served on the staffs of SEC Chairmen Richard Breeden and Arthur Levitt.
