In an interview with economist Andy Busch on the Engage podcast, ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols outlined priority banking issues facing Congress this fall, including cannabis banking, the CECL accounting model, modernizing anti-money laundering rules and housing finance reform. “In a divided Congress, with the Democrats controlling the House and the Republicans controlling the Senate, there’s not going to be a huge set of legislative issues that are going to be agreed upon by both bodies,” Nichols explained. The issues he outlined, however, are areas “where we’re seeing real progress and positive forward momentum.”
Nichols also discussed ABA priorities beyond Congress, including working with regulators and promoting innovation.
