To help consumers make the most of new chip cards during the holiday shopping season and understand their security benefits, ABA has launched a new education campaign. The campaign will include media outreach and commentary by personal finance and consumer retail journalists Hitha Herzog, Elisabeth Leamy and Trae Bodge.
A new website, SafeChipCard.com, includes an infographic and consumer-oriented FAQs addressing how to use a chip card, how banks protect payments and how the chip provides added protection from data breaches. The campaign also emphasizes that customers continue to have zero liability for fraudulent purchases in all cases.
“The technology makes it extremely difficult for hackers to steal valuable account information in the event of another retailer breach this holiday season,” said ABA SVP Doug Johnson. “Banks are constantly employing new technologies to protect customers.”
