The American Bankers Association’s anti-phishing campaign for banks is finding fun ways to educate consumers about the scams, ABA EVP Paul Benda told NBC10 Boston for a recent news segment on the #BanksNeverAskThat campaign.
Consumers lost more than $10 billion dollars to phishing scams in 2023, NBC10 Boston reported, citing Federal Trade Commission data. The #BanksNeverAskThat campaign uses humorous ads along with a dedicated website featuring a quiz and video game to educate consumers on the warning signs that they are being targeted by a phishing scam.
“The idea was to use humor to try to educate consumers on what banks will and won’t ask,” Benda told the news station.
Banks can register for free to access #BanksNeverAskThat anti-phishing materials, including videos and social media posts. ABA also has launched a related #PracticeSafeChecks campaign to educate consumers about check fraud.
