New orders for manufactured goods increased 0.1 percent to $499.8 billion in August, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This decline followed two consecutive monthly increases.
New orders for manufactured durable goods increased $0.4 billion or 0.2 percent to $250.7 billion. Fabricated metal products drove the increase, up 1.2 percent to $34.3 billion. New orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft decreased 0.4 percent from the previous month to $69.2 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods increased 0.1 percent to $253.9 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods increased 0.2 percent to $428.3 billion.
