New orders for manufactured goods increased 0.1 percent to $499.9 billion in December, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The increase followed a 0.5 percent decrease in November.
New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 1.2 percent to $254.1 billion in November. Transportation equipment drove the increase, up 3.2 percent to $89.9 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods increased 0.7 percent to $259.1 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods increased 0.3 percent to $415.1 billion.
