New orders for manufactured goods grew 1.7% to $498.7 billion in December, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The increase followed a 1.7% rise in November.
New orders for manufactured durable goods grew 2.8% to $249.3 billion in December. Transportation equipment led the increase, rising 7.1% to $86.9 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods increased 0.5% to $246.5 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods, up seventeen of the last eighteen months, increased 0.3% to $406.8 billion.
