New orders for manufactured goods, down following two consecutive monthly increases, fell $4.6 billion or 1.0 percent to $455.2 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This followed a 1.8 percent increase in April.
Shipments, down three of the last four months, decreased $0.6 billion or 0.2 percent to $231.6 billion. Inventories, down ten of the last eleven months, decreased $1.1 billion or 0.3 percent to $382.6 billion. Unfilled orders, up four of the last five months, increased $1.7 billion or 0.2 percent to $1,138.9 billion.
The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.36, unchanged from April.
