New orders for manufactured durable goods in January decreased $18 billion in January to $276.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau said in its most recent advance report. The decrease followed a 0.3% December decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.3%. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 7.3%. Transportation equipment led the decrease, $17.4 billion or 16.2% to $89.8 billion
