The American Bankers Association today announced that the inaugural recipient of the Jeffrey and Diana Owen Scholarship for Emerging Community Bank Leaders is Joseph Collum, SVP and director of branch and business banking at Burke and Herbert Bank and Trust Company in Alexandria, Va.
The scholarship—which was initiated by a gift from former ABA COO Jeff Owen, who retired in 2017 after 45 years with ABA, and his wife Diana—covers tuition for an emerging community bank leader to attend the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, which will be held this year from June 6-13 at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in Philadelphia. The deadline to apply is May 1.
“It is imperative for the banking community to invest in the development of our top talent,” said ABA President and CEO Rob Nichols. “We are grateful to Jeff and Diana Owen for their generosity in initiating this fund and for their interest in providing the opportunity for a deserving community banker like Joe to benefit from the world-class Stonier educational experience.”
