The House last night approved ABA-backed legislation that would expand and strengthen health savings accounts as part of the ongoing effort to improve the American healthcare system. H.R. 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act, passed by a 277 to 142 vote, while H.R. 6311, the Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act, passed by a vote of 242 to 176.
“These bills will help working seniors keep their employer coverage longer and allow Americans to save more for their future healthcare needs — two critically important steps toward addressing HSA flexibility,” said ABA HSA Council Executive Director Kevin McKechnie. “We urge lawmakers in the Senate to quickly consider and pass these proposals so that more Americans will have access to both less expensive health insurance and more value-based care.”
