The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is gathering information on debt collection-related disclosures, according to a filing in the Federal Register to be published tomorrow. The bureau is seeking regulatory approval for a survey of consumers’ understanding of and decision-making in response to debt collection disclosures.
The bureau has been engaged in a longstanding rulemaking effort on debt collection. According to the CFPB’s regulatory agenda, a proposed rule on third-party debt collection is expected this fall, with further action to come later on creditors that collect their own debts.
