The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is requesting information on consumers’ experience with access to free credit scores as well as information about the experience of companies and nonprofits that offer their customers and the general public free access to their credit scores.
In March, the bureau published a list of companies that offer existing credit card customers free access to a credit score. The list was compiled based on comments received in response to a public notice in October 2016. As a next step, the CFPB is seeking to learn more about consumers having access to free credit scores and the companies providing free access to credit scores. Comments are due on Feb. 12, 2018.
In related news, the bureau announced plans to update the list of companies that offer existing credit card customers free access to a credit score. Companies included on the March 2017 list must submit a new request on or before Jan. 12, 2018. For more information, contact ABA’s Nessa Feddis.
