Consumer inflation expectations in September increased at the short- and medium-term horizons and remained unchanged at the longer-term horizon, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said in its most recent Survey of Consumer Expectations.
Median inflation expectations increased by 0.3 percentage points to 3.9% at the one-year horizon, and by 0.1 percentage point to 3.3% at the three-year horizon, the New York Fed said. Expectations remained unchanged at the five-year-ahead horizon at 3%.
The median expected growth in household income increased by 0.1 percentage point to 3.1%, its highest reading since February 2025. Perceptions of credit access compared to a year ago declined, with the net share of households reporting it is harder to get credit. The average perceived probability of missing a minimum debt payment over the next three months decreased by 1.0 percentage point to 12.2%.
