The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.4% in August, seasonally adjusted, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report. Final demand prices increased 0.1% in July and decreased 0.1% in June. On an unadjusted basis, the index for final demand rose 5.4% for the 12 months ended in August 2026.

The August incline in final demand prices can be attributed to a 1.1% rise in the index for final demand goods and a 0.1% rise in the index for final demand services.
Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services increased 0.3% in August, after increasing 0.4% in July. For the 12 months ended in August, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services moved up 4.7%.
The index for final demand goods moved up 1.1% in August, following two consecutive decreases. Over 75% of the broad-based increase in August can be traced to a 4.2% rise in prices for final demand energy. The index for final demand goods less foods and energy moved up 0.4%, while the index for final demand foods moved up 0.1%.
The index for final demand services edged up 0.1% in August, the third consecutive increase. The August rise can be traced to a 2.3% rise in the prices for final demand transportation and warehousing services. In contrast, the index for final demand trade services edged down 0.2%, while the index for final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing were unchanged.
