American Bankers Association General Counsel Tom Pinder has been named a finalist for Law.com’s 2026 GC Impact Award, which recognizes chief legal officers who have made significant accomplishments in the past year.
Under Pinder’s leadership, ABA’s legal department evolved from a traditional risk-management function into a strategic partner advancing advocacy, governance, operations and member service objectives. Pinder provided legal leadership supporting ABA’s Blueprint for Growth, key banking policy initiatives, and ABA Foundation programs that surpassed a three-year goal of reaching five million individuals through financial education efforts with participation from more than 1,360 banks nationwide.
ABA’s resident expert on election and lobbying laws and internal code of conduct, Pinder also leads coalition-building efforts, overseeing more than 100 amicus briefs supporting issues critical to the banking industry and facilitating peer groups for bank general counsels nationwide.
The GC Impact Award is part of Law.com’s D.C. Legal Awards, which celebrate excellence in the D.C. legal profession. Specifically, the GC award recognizes dynamic leaders who have partnered with their organizations and with their outside counsel to find ways to transform their legal departments from cost centers to business units.
The awards ceremony will be held Oct. 20 at The Mayflower Hotel in D.C.
