New orders for manufactured goods decreased 3.3% to $564.2 billion, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This followed a 0.5% May decrease.
New orders for manufactured durable goods fell 6.7% to $264.1 billion, down from the previously published 6.6% decrease. This followed a 0.1% May increase. Transportation equipment, down two of the last months, drove the decrease with a 20.6% drop to $75.8 billion. New orders for manufactured nondurable goods edged down 0.1% to $300.0 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in July increased 1.2% to $287.9 billion, unchanged from the previously published increase. This followed a 0.4% decrease in May. Transportation equipment, up four of the last five months, drove the increase with a 3.7% rise to $95.3 billion. Shipments of manufactured nondurable goods, down two consecutive months, edged down 0.1% to $300.0 billion.
