Szyperski Elected ABA Chairman

Jeff Szyperski was elected the 2018-19 American Bankers Association chairman today during the association’s Annual Convention in New York City. Szyperski — chairman, president and CEO of Chesapeake Bank, Kilmarnock, Va. — assumed ABA’s top leadership post from Ken Burgess, chairman of FirstCapital Bank of Texas, Midland, Texas. Also elected were: ABA Chairman-Elect Laurie Stewart, president and CEO of Sound Community Bank, Seattle; Vice Chairman James Edwards, Jr., CEO of United Bank in Griffin, Ga.; and Treasurer Luther Deaton, chairman, president and CEO, Central Bank and Trust Co., Lexington, Ky.

Elected as new board members were: Richard Adams Jr., president, United Bankshares, Parkersburg, W.Va.; Pedro Bryant, president and CEO, Metro Bank, Louisville, Ky.; Greg Carmichael, chairman, president and CEO, Fifth Third Bancorp, Cincinnati; Luanne Cundiff, president and CEO, First State Bank of St. Charles, St. Charles, Mo.; Kristie Holoch, president and CEO, Cornerstone Bank, York, Neb.; Bryan Luke, president and COO, Hawaii National Bank, Honolulu; Matt Packard, chairman and CEO, Central Bank, Provo, Utah; Brad Paige, president and CEO, Kennebunk Savings Bank, Kennebunk, Maine; Pat Weigel, president and CEO, Norway Savings Bank, Norway, Maine; and Dan Yates, president and CEO, Brattleboro Savings and Loan, Brattleboro, Vt.

Also elected to the board for a one-year term were Government Relations Council Chairman Jim Reuter, CEO, FirstBank, Lakewood, Colo.; GRC Vice Chairman Dan Robb, president and CEO, Jonesburg State Bank, Jonesburg, Mo; ABA-State Bankers Association Alliance Chairman Chris Pinkham, president and CEO of the Maine Bankers Association; and Alliance Vice Chairman Howard Headlee, president and CEO of the Utah Bankers Association.
