Congress Approves Government Funding Bill through Feb. 8

The Senate today voted 81 to 18 to fund the federal government through Feb. 8, a step toward ending the government shutdown that began on Saturday morning, after which the House voted 266 to 150 to send the measure to President Trump, who was expected to sign it. The vote renewed authorization for the National Flood Insurance Program. The bill did not address ongoing topics of negotiation on Capitol Hill, including healthcare spending and immigration issues, that precipitated the lapse in government funding.
