Fannie Mae Reports $2.8B Profit in First Quarter

Fannie Mae today reported a $2.8 billion profit for the first quarter, following earnings of $4.85 billion in the previous quarter. The decrease in profit from the fourth quarter of 2016 was attributed to smaller increases in interest rates, the company said.

Fannie said it would pay a $2.8 billion dividend to the U.S. Treasury in June, bringing its total payments to $162.7 billion since it entered federal conservatorship in 2008.
