ABA today welcomed the passage of the bipartisan Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act by a 74-21 vote in the Senate. The bill facilitates increased sharing of cyber threat intelligence between the private and public sectors, and its passage increases the likelihood of achieving legislative success on information-sharing in this Congress.
“Today’s strong bipartisan vote is an essential step toward the passage of critical information-sharing legislation in this Congress,” said ABA President and CEO Frank Keating. “It would enhance ongoing efforts by the private sector and the federal government to better protect both our critical infrastructure and Americans from all walks of life from cyber criminals.”
Keating cautioned that certain provisions adopted in the legislative process could have the “unintended consequence” of making information sharing less effective. “We look forward to working with members of the House and Senate as they begin to reconcile their legislation to address this and any other remaining concerns as this important process moves forward,” he said.
