Tennessee banks to merge, New York bank to acquire fintech

House Republicans ask Fed to speed up bank merger application reviews

Peoples Bancshares of TN in Madisonville, Tennessee, has applied to buy First Peoples Bancorp in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Peoples Bancshares, the holding company for the $456.1 million-asset Peoples Bank of East Tennessee, submitted its application on Sept. 18. It expects to buy the parent of the $219.5 million-asset First Peoples Bank of Tennessee by early next year.

Valley National Bancorp in New York has agreed to buy fintech Bluevine in Jersey City, New Jersey. The $66 billion-asset Valley said in a press release that it will pay $340 million in cash and stock for Bluevine. The deal is expected to close early next year.
