There were $506.8 billion in retail and food service sales in June, up 0.5 percent from the previous month and 6.6 percent from June 2017, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. May’s number was upwardly revised to reflect a 1.3 percent increase.
Core retail sales – excluding automobiles and parts – rose 0.4 percent. Year-over-year core sales increased 7.1 percent.
Retail trade sales increased 0.3 percent from May and 6.4 percent from last year. Sales at nonstore retailers grew 1.3 percent following May’s 0.4 percent increase. Nonstore retailer sales are up 10.2 percent year-over-year as online retailers continue to grow their market share.
Sales at gasoline stations rose 1.0 percent during June after growing 3.0 percent in May. Gasoline station sales are up 21.6 percent since June 2017.
