When Mary Beth Sullivan and Mark Gibson of Capital Performance Group spoke at the 2017 ABA Bank Marketing Conference last fall, the burning issue on every banker’s mind was how to grow deposits.

That hasn’t changed—liquidity and deposits are still a hot topic at most banks. There’s a lot of pressure to do something about it. And marketing will be held accountable.

As former bankers, Sullivan and Gibson get it. So when they sat down for a chat after their presentation, they talked about using data and analytics to find new opportunities for deposit growth.

The good news is, there are things you can do to:

  • Identify existing customers who have deposits elsewhere.
  • Target non-customers who are likely to have large deposits.
  • Do a better job developing deposit relationships on the small business and commercial side.
  • Design marketing strategies that you can actually act on.
