October was a good month for CEO Jill Castilla of the Citizens Bank of Edmond, Okla., which has two locations and assets of $252 million.
On Oct. 6 she addressed the general session of the ABA Bank Marketing Conference, Denver, speaking on the topic, “Building Strong Banks, One Community at a Time.” Also, this month American Banker newspaper named her (for the second year in a row) as one of the “25 Women to Watch in Banking.”
During a recent video interview for The Street, Castilla discussed her philosophy of community banking. She said her bank plays the role of community “builder” and “energizer.” Competition with larger banks is not a problem. Her bank concentrates on knowing the community and connecting with the people—something that larger banks are less proficient at doing.
